Sagome school library now under construction
In the town of Wolkite, on the edge of Ethiopia’s Gurage Highlands about two hours by car from the capital city of Addis Ababa, the Sagome Learning Center and its more than 600 students will soon have a new library.
Thanks to many individual donors, a fund-raising event and a matching grant from the Nicol Family Foundation, $15,000 in capital funding was raised last year and the library is now under construction.
As you can see from the photo above taken earlier this year, the footings are in and much of the reinforcement is in place. Since then, cement blocks, concrete and other materials to finish the building have been trucked to the site and walls put in place.
According to our partners at the school, the library roof will be built once school ends in late June, when construction can be completed safely.
The school community, students and families send their thanks and appreciation. With your help, the children of Wolkite, Ethiopia — like the girls in the photo below — are helping to build a better future for themselves, their families and their nation.
