Hello! Jambo!
September marks a significant milestone for Heart of Ruth Mission (HoRM), an organization dedicated to supporting Kenyan youth. For 11 years now, HoRM has been on a remarkable journey, making a profound impact on the lives of youth in Kenya. Today, we have the privilege of hearing directly from Rebecca Dallaire, the Project Leader for Heart of Ruth Mission, as she shares her insights and experiences with us.
A Decade of Dedication
HoRM’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Over the past 11 years, they have been steadfast in their commitment to providing educational opportunities for Kenyan youth. What makes this journey even more noteworthy is their partnership with DevXchange International, which has further amplified their impact and extended their reach.
Education in the Face of Challenges
The past few years have been particularly challenging due to the global pandemic. However, HoRM’s dedication to their mission never wavered. They shifted their main focus towards education, recognizing it as the most valuable gift they could offer to young adults in Kenya. Education, as Nelson Mandela aptly put it, is indeed the most powerful weapon to change the world.
Child Sponsorship Program: Changing Lives One Student at a Time
One of the cornerstones of HoRM’s work is their Child Sponsorship Program. Since 2012, they have sponsored over 25 students, and currently, they support six young adults pursuing higher education in university and college programs. These students have faced unimaginable challenges but have also shown incredible resilience.
Prior to the pandemic, HoRM supported various initiatives at the Rainbow House Children’s Home, where many of these students grew up. This included fundraising efforts to repair essential infrastructure such as broken plumbing and electrical systems. They even increased the height of the protective wall surrounding the orphanage, making it a safer place for the children.
HoRM’s support goes beyond education. They’ve provided vital assistance, including covering months of food and hospital bills for several students over the years. But their current focus is firmly on the sponsorship program because they understand that education is the greatest gift they can offer these young adults.
Meet the Deserving Students
Rebecca Dallaire introduces us to some of the students who are in desperate need of sponsorship:
- Christine Uchi is studying at Nairobi Technical Training Institute for a diploma in Social Work and Community Development.
- George Dzombo currently in his second year of pursuing a Bachelor of Education.
- George Mlandi also in his second year of pursuing a Bachelor of Education.
- Mohammad Hamso is embarking on his first year of Electrical Engineering.
These students, all of whom grew up at Rainbow House Children’s Home, never dreamt that attending university would be possible. However, HoRM is determined to make their dreams a reality, and they cannot do it without the generous financial support of donors like you.
A Personal Touch
What sets HoRM apart from larger organizations is their commitment to maintaining a personal connection between sponsors and students. Sponsors have the opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with the students they support, should they choose to reach out. These students are not strangers; they have been part of the HoRM family for 11 years. Sponsors can even send items to Kenya and receive heartfelt letters in response. HoRM strives to deliver a much more personal program than other organizations, creating a close-knit community of support.
Join the Heart of Ruth Mission
Rebecca Dallaire’s message is clear: HoRM needs your support to continue transforming lives through education. Education is a powerful force for change, and by contributing to their cause, you can make a tangible difference in the lives of these young adults. Whether you want to sponsor a student or make a one-time donation, your support will have a lasting impact.
In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Heart of Ruth Mission is living proof of this, and they invite you to join them in changing the world, one student at a time.
