Clean Water is critical in the North Shoa area of Ethiopia and the agro-forestry project.

Description

In many areas of Ethiopia, people lack clean water sources, leading to the use of contaminated water from rivers or ponds. This often results in waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea, especially affecting children whose immune systems are more vulnerable. Children, especially girls, often bear the responsibility of fetching water for their families. The time spent collecting water detracts from education, as they may miss school to fulfill this vital need. Access to clean water within or near communities can help improve school attendance. The Forestry project has a goal to build many wells in the North Shoa area of Ethiopia. It is key nor only for clean water but can help with other agro-forestry initiatives that result in income producing fruits and vegetables for farmers. The first step in expanding the agro-foresty project to new communities is ensuring they have a supply of clean water.
